Living What They Learn

I just read this in my Ocotober edition of LIVING WITH TEENAGERS (ya know I have one now) and it spoke volumes to me! Dr. Dorothy Law Nolte, a life long teacher and lecturer on family life education, wrote the following words about instilling values in children by living an example for them. The list is long, but worth it.
*If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
*If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
*If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
*If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
*If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
*If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
*If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
*If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
*If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
*If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
*If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
*If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
*If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
*If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
*If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
*If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
*If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
*If children live with securtiy,
they learn to have faith in themselves and those about them.
*If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.
I hope you enjoy this as I did.
Her book is definitely on my 'to read' list.
I wish I had read it sooner!

Riding Horses Today

Today we went out to Mr. Joe's for a lazy day of riding horses. Well, Shelby and Ed did most of the riding, but I did have my turn for a couple of laps around the field. I haven't blogged to let you know of Mr. Joe's stroke he suffered on August 28. The stroke rendered him with left-sided paralysis, but he's still the same 'ole Mr. Joe to us. He soooo enjoyed our company today and especially watching us ride. Please pray for him as he returns to the
Rehab hospital next week to stay for more continued therapy.

A New Friend

I've "met" a new friend over the 'net and her name is Ashley. She is a photographer in South Carolina and we've been emailing one another now for several months. She is an amazing photographer and is really trying to grow her business. She photographs weddings, families, kids and maternity sessions. But you should really check out her military work! My children were soooo impressed when I first showed them all the cool pictures she has included in her military repertoire. I've so enjoyed our emails and I hope she can come to AL to visit soon!
Check her out at www.ashleybrokop.com.
